COC-M: First win this season for Stefan Huber

Stefan Huber is the first winner of the Continental Cup weekend in Zakopane (POL). The Austrian won a difficult competition on Saturday evening, in which the first round was interrupted for a long time due to problems with the watering system.

In sometimes changing wind conditions on the Wielka Krokiew hill, the 24-year-old from Salzburg had the third-best jump of the first round with 137.5 m, he then claimed his third win in the COC with the longest jump of the day of 138.5 m in the final and 288.4 points.

Kilian Peier of Switzerland, who won in Stams recently, came in second in Zakopane with jumps of 133 m and 127.5 m and a total of 281.8 points. Germany's Moritz Baer, who was fourth after the first half of the competition with 129 m, took the third spot on the podium with his second jump of 133.5 m and 276.4 points.

Slovenian youngster Zak Mogel, who gained some attention with many strong performances this summer, was in the lead after the first round ahead of Peier and Huber with 138 m. His second jump of 129 m was then enough to finish fourth. The 17-year-old was only 0.8 points behind Moritz Baer.

Thomas Aasen Markeng of Norway came in on a career-best fifth place, he was followed by the second-best German, Felix Hoffmann, in sixth. The good team result for the German Ski Association was completed by Constantin Schmid in eighth.

After seven podium finishes in a row, Austria's Philipp Aschenwald was seventh in this competition, best athlete of the hosting team was Aleksander Zniszczol in ninth. Naoki Nakamura of Japan completed the Top 10 on day 1 in Zakopane.

Philipp Aschenwald remains in the lead of the overall ranking with his total of 714 points. Kilian Peier (430 points) and Zak Mogel (349 points) are second and third.

The second competition in Zakopane starts on Sunday at 11 am CET.
