Chekaleva wins "bronze" in 10km race
TRENTO, Italy, February 26  - Norway’s Teresa Johaug won her third world championship cross-country skiing gold medal Tuesday in the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle race.

Johaug won by 10.2 seconds from fellow Norwegian Marit Bjorgen, who was chasing an 11th worlds gold medal and third gold at this year’s event.

Russia’s Yulia Chekaleva took the bronze, finishing 25.5 seconds behind Bjorgen but a crucial half-second ahead of German biathlon specialist Miriam Goessner, who was forced to settle for fourth.

Norwegian skiers continued their record of winning all three individual cross-country events so far at the 2013 Nordic world championships, with the country’s only blip coming in the team sprint, won by the United States.

The women's relay takes place Thursday, with the 30km classic race Saturday.

For the men, Friday sees the 15km freestyle, with the relay Friday and the 50km classic rounding out the championships Sunday.
