Marko Pfeifer new Austrian slalom coach
The Austrian Ski Federation reported that Marko Pfeifer has been named new coach of Austrian slalom World Cup team.

The 39-year-old, who has been working as head coach in Sweden for the past three years will be in charge of a group, which includes Marcel Hirscher, Mario Matt, Manfred Pranger and others. Pfeifer follows the steps of Michael Pircher, who will now work more intensely with two times Overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher.

Mathias Berthold, the athletic director of the Austrian men’s’ team is confident that Pfeifer is an absolute expert: "Marko did a great job in recent years, he worked very successfully with both experienced as well as young athletes. He has shown how to build an effective team and lead it to the top. Michael Pircher will take care in the future even more intensively of Marcel. "

"After a long and successful time in the Swedish Ski Association, I am pleased with this new and very exciting task and challenge," says Pfeifer. "With the Olympic Games, a very important season is around the corner. We need to optimize the conditions for our athletes and build a young slalom team around Marcel Hirscher."

Pfeifer received a two-year contract from Sports Director Hans Pum: "I have known Marko for many years and have followed his coaching career closely. He has done a very good job in recent years. I'm glad that he will return after such a long time and work for the Austrian Ski Federation. "

The European Cup head coach position was filled with Martin Sprenger. In the past three seasons Sprenger was in charge of the giant slalom and combi teams overseing among others Hannes Reichelt, Philipp Schorghofer and Marcel Mathis. "This is a great challenge for me. I will put a special focus on the technical disciplines. We need to close the gap we have place as fast as possible some young athletes among the best ones in the world."said Sprenger.
