British Ski and Snowboard have appointed strength and conditioning coach John Noonan to lead strength and conditioning support for the British World Cup Snowboard Cross squad and the British Alpine Skiing Squad.

Noonan, brought in seven months before the start of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, has successfully implemented and managed programs at youth and senior level to a number of professional sports teams including Chelsea FC, Hull City FC, Scunthorpe United FC, and Leeds Carnegie RUFC.

John Noonan said of the appointment: "Naturally this is a really exciting time to be involved in snowsports with the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, but importantly I'm really pleased to continue the work we have started with Snowboard Cross Squad over the last 14 months and have the opportunity to offer this support to other Squad. It is clear from much of the work I've seen already that our athletes are receiving quality on snow training tailored to their sport requirements. Along with our strength and conditioning programmes we will look at means were we can accelerate the health and physical robustness of our athletes to ultimately become even more competitive on the world stage."

Paddy Mortimer, Performance Manager at British Ski and Snowboard said: “John's appointment is a major step forward and a further building block closer to provide a complete performance for our athletes. It further cements our relationship with Liverpool John Moores University as a service provider, and John's experience, knowledge and drive toward high performance will be essential toward our ultimate vision of best practice”.

Noonan will lead the athletic development of Sochi hopeful Zoe Gillings and support all BSS Alpine Skiing Squad members on BSS programmes.
