Klimko pleased with first training results
Polish national coach Jan Klimko is satisfied with the results of his young team in the first training camps of the year, as he said in an interview with the website of the Polish Ski Federation PZN.
"We already had the first camps and started to jump again in May. The boys presented themselves to be in good shape during these camp. All training groups met in Spala for a big camp and I can say that I am satisfied with the preparations for the season so far as both, older and younger athletes showed good starts in the training", Klimko said.
Unfortunately, team leader Adam Cieslar sustained an injury after a mountain biking accident during the camp in Spala and will have to sit out for 4-6 weeks. Cieslar fell on his collarbone which he had already fractured last year and it broke again. No surgeries are necessary but for now, Olympic participant Cieslar can only train the lower parts of his body which means fast walks and the stationary bike.
Next on schedule is a jumping camp in Szczyrk which will also feature some roller-skiing and next to all of the other planned training camps will be held in Poland with the exception of 10 days in Strbske Pleso, Slovakia, where some intensive hiking trips in the high Tatra mountains are planned. At the end of August, Klimko plans to take part in the Summer Grand Prix with his athletes and also the Polish Championships are on schedule before that.
From this season on, the team will be missing Andrzej Gasienica who decided to join the special jumpers instead. Klimko: "At the time when Andrzej told me about his decision, I tried to persuade him to change his mind. The four athletes we worked with in the last years have a huge potential and Andrzej was a strong athlete in this team, especially on the jumping hill. I counted much on him. Last season was a bit unlucky for him because he had knee surgery and did not train together with the other athletes. In addition, the snow situation in Poland did not allow for a proper preparation. I suspect all of these factors influenced his decision."
