Nordic Opening in Ruka: Cross-Country and Nordic Combined World Cups begin
As part of the traditional FIS Nordic Opening, Cross-Country Skiing, Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined will come togetherfrom 28th - 30th November 2014 in Ruka (FIN).

While the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup presented by Viessmann had its opening weekend in Klingenthal (GER), Cross-Country and Nordic Combined will both stage their Season Openings in Finland.

In total, eight World Cup competitions, four in Cross-Country, two in Ski Jumping and two in Nordic Combined will be held at Ruka’s Nordic arena.

Cross-Country Skiing

In Cross-Country, unlike four previous editions, Ruka will not have the format of a stage-event but of two regular World Cup races. Among the top athletes are the World Cup champions from last winter, Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Therese Johaug, as well as former multiple winners Marit Bjoergen (all NOR) and Dario Cologna (SUI).

Nordic Combined

Entering its 13th edition, the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup will again see a truly exciting winter with the second edition of the Nordic Combined Triple and the FIS World Championships as season highlights.

Throughout the winter, defending World Cup and World Champion Eric Frenzel (GER) in addition to four-time World Champion Jason Lamy Chappuis (FRA), Magnus Moan (NOR) and Akito Watabe (JPN) are expected to challenge across twelve World Cup stages and try to keep the rising talents including Johannes Rydzek (GER) and Jorgen Graabak (NOR) off their backs.
