Anders Jacobsen wins New Year's event in Garmisch
Anders Jacobsen won the New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the second time and so the fight for the overall title at this 4-Hills-Tournament is completely open again.

With jumps on 135.5 m and 136.5 m and 286.0 points, the Norwegian came in ahead of Simon Ammann and Peter Prevc. The winner said afterwards: “I was surprised by my jumps yesterday. In Oberstdorf I was not able to show my best performance, but here I had six fantastic jumps and I hope I can continue jumping on this level.”

Ammann, for whom the overall title is out of reach after his fall in Oberstdorf, posted jumps on 138 m and 133 m and scored 279.4 points. “After my second jump I didn't expect such a result. But the tail wind was pretty strong and so the compensation points helped me. The next two competitions are a bit easier for me, because I don't have any pressure regarding the overall ranking.” 2.5 points behind Ammann, Peter Prevc repeated his third place from Oberstdorf with 136.5 m and 136 m. The Slovene said: “Honestly I don't have any expectations regarding the result before a competition, I just expect to jump well. Of course I think about the overall ranking, but I have to focus on my jumps. I'll try my best and then the computer will calculate the results.”

Schlierenzauer shows improvement

Gregor Schlierenzauer missed the podium by only 1.2 points and showed an upward trend with his jumps on 132.5 m and 139.5 m. The record World Cup winner said: “I had a really good jump in the final, but I should not overrate it. Maybe it's the boost I needed for Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. Innsbruck is always special for me, it's my home hill. I want to show good jumps there and have fun.”

Rune Velta achieved his best result this season in fifth with 134 m and 136.5 m for a total of 272.7 points. The sixth place went to the winner of the competition in Oberstdorf, Stefan Kraft, with 270.0 points, only 0.2 points ahead of his teammate Michael Hayboeck. Noriaki Kasai finished eighth, only 0.1 points behind the Austrian.

Stefan Kraft was satisfied: “The sixth place is very good, I'm very happy with how the new year started. The highlight is that I can still wear the leader's bib. I hope that there will be many Austrian flags at the next two events and that it will be a major spectacle.” Michael Hayboeck said: “Going to Innsbruck with the yellow bib is great and an additional motivation. I'm in a very good position in the overall ranking and I'm looking forward to jumping in front of the home crowd all year.”

Germans strong in the final

Richard Freitag (261.8 points) and Severin Freund (260.2 points) showed good jump in the final round and came in ninth and tenth. Ski flying World Champion Severin Freund said: “The first jump was not that bad either, it was better than yesterday. The second jump was a step in the right direction. I've never showed my best jumps here, so today's performance was okay. I hope that we will be able to fight for podium results in Innsbruck.” His teammate Richard Freitag added: “I'm rarely satisfied, independent of the result. I can live with the second jump today and so I start this year with a positive feeling after the first competition, even if the result was not that good. I was still thinking too much during my first jump, we have to work on that. I'm lacking the consistency, maybe we have to learn that. I go to Innsbruck with a good feeling, there will be a great atmosphere and I'm looking forward to attack there.”

Roman Koudelka, who was disqualified in the qualification on Wednesday, finished eleventh, Marinus Kraus came in 13th, behind Andreas Kofler. Kofler said afterwards: “I'm quite satisfied, it was okay. Now we have to two home events and I'm looking forward to it a lot. I'll try to do my thing and maybe achieved a bit better results. Right now everyone on the team is in a good mood and shows good performances.”

Stoch satisfied with the 15th place

Anders Fannemel completed the good team result for Norway in 14th, after his strong comeback in Oberstdorf, Kamil Stoch was 15th this time. The double Olympic Champion said: “These weren't my best jumps, but I tried what I could. On this hill I feel some pain in my ankle after the landing, but it's getting better. I don't have any major expectations for Innsbruck, I just want to ski jump.”

Stephan Leyhe presented himself in a very good shape again and finished 16th. The athlete of Willingen was happy: “A dream came true for me with the participation in the 4-Hills-Tournament and my performances are good as well. I'm very strong at the take-off right now and I enjoy being here. I hope that I can score points again in the next competitions.”

After a strong jump in the final round Jarkko Maeaettae was the best Finn in 18th. Johann Andre Forfang and Taku Takeuchi shared the 19th place. Dimitry Vassiliev was 22nd, behind Anders Bardal, and scored World Cup points for the Russian team, Phillip Sjoeen and Michael Neumayer shared the 23rd place, defending champion Thomas Diethart was 25th. Bardal said afterwards: “I'm not where I want to be, things are not going the way they should. I'm working on it, it's just about letting it go.”

Kraft still in the lead

Stefan Kraft still leads the overall ranking of the 4-Hills-Tournament with 561.9 points, Peter Prevc follows only 1.1 point behind. Michael Hayboeck is third, Anders Jacobsen moved up to fourth with 540.7 points, Noriaki Kasai follows in fifth, ahead of the two Austrians Andreas Kofler and Gregor Schlierenzauer.
