Patrizia Kummer and Nevin Galmarini top field at season's second Parallel Team Event in Bad Gastein
Team SUI1 with Olympic Champion Patrizia Kummer and Olympic Silver medallist Nevin Galmarini have claimed victory at the season's second Parallel Team Event (PSL) which was staged on the Bucheben slope in Bad Gastein, Austria today.
One day after Kummer had placed second in the PSL event on the same hill, the 27-year-old and her one year older team mate from Swiss Snowboard met the expectations of being one of the mixed teams to look out for in the field of 32 and edged off RUS5 with Svetlana Boldykova and Valery Kolegov to the second rank.
“I was fighting a lot today and also had the luck to my side from time to time. I had a strong teammate otherwise I wouldn't be on top of the podium. But it's nice as I wasn't able to compete at the first ever Team Event in Montafon”, said Nevin Galmarini after the last World Cup event prior to the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships at Kreischberg (Jan 15th to 25th).
Galmarini, who had missed out the debut of the Team Event last month, also stated: “It's important to work together. Although you don't race together side by side, you have to communicate with each other and trust your teammate in his or her decision. A good team spirit is important.”
Patrizia Kummer added: “It's a great feeling to win again in Bad Gastein. I'm very happy. Yesterday, people said to me that I wasn't able to take home my fourth consecutive win in Bad Gastein, so it's nice to do it today.”
RUS2 with brother and sister mix Natalia Soboleva and Andrey Sobolev, who had placed second at the debut of the thrilling event in Montafon, Austria last month, rounded out the podium as third while local heroes Claudia Riegler and Benjamin Karl of AUT2 had to settle for fourth.
At the Parallel Team Event, the best 16 or 32 mixed teams of the latest ranking list (combined points of man and woman of FIS or World Cup point list) will compete in head-to-head duels with the start gate opening – similar to the Snowboard Cross Team event – for the second rider as soon as the start racer crossed the finish line.
The better ranked team has the advantage of choosing the course side while the other team also has to announce if man or woman enters the slope first.
The FIS Snowboard World Cup tour continues after a two-week break for the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships at Kreischberg and Lachtal, Austria (Jan 15th to 25th) in Rogla, Slovenia with a Parallel Giant Slalom scheduled for January 31st.
