Worldloppet Update - Tartu and Demino
Organizers of the 43rd Tartu Maraton gathered today to make an official decision concerning this years’ Tartu Maraton. Considering current track conditions and weather forecast for the week ahead the decision was unanimous that the 43rd Tartu Maraton will take place on the planned track and distance.
„Already before todays’ meeting it was clear that this year we don’t have to worry about cancelling Tartu Maraton. We rather had to decide whether we can finish in Elva or shorten the distance and finish in Palu,“ said Tartu Maraton race director Indrek Kelk.
„Yesterdays’ Tartu Maraton Open Track and 4th Tartu Relay Marathon proved that the track conditions are good and even the last 16km from Palu to Elva was a lot better than few days ago. We have enough snow for a top quality Tartu Maraton now and the race will be in full distance“.
Weather forecast for the weak ahead predicts sunny weather where the temperatures can reach above zero some days but no rain. This means that there should be no danger for the track.
63km distance of the 43rd Tartu Maratons will start at 9.00 on the 15th of February in Otepää. Shorter 31km distance will start from Arula at 12.30.
Tartu Maraton children’s events may take place with shorter distances
On this Saturday, February 14th, the 43rd Tartu Maraton children’s events take place and due to changeable weather, the distances may be shorter than initially planned. The final decisions will be made in the second half of the week.
“At this moment, Tartu Tähtvere Sports park’s skiing conditions are good but additional snow is transported and more work with the tracks has to be done,” said Kunnar Karu, project manager of the 43rd Tartu Maraton. “Under the question is using skiing tracks in nearby Dendropark. If the weather won’t melt much, the tracks will be used, but we will make the decision on this Wednesday or Thursday.”
At the moment, the TILLUraces are planned to take place with 300 m, 500 m and 1 km long distances, MINImaraton with 1,5 km long distance.
“Regardless of the lack of natural snow and very small amount of snow making days, SA Tähtvere Puhkepark has done a remarkable job to make sure the children’s event take place,” added Karu. “All children will find a suitable distance and it surely will be a fun skiing day!”
Registration for the children’s event is open from today, February 9th until Thursday, February 12th, 17.00 (Estonian time) on Club Tartu Maraton website. On Friday, it is possible to register in the race center of the 43rd Tartu Maraton and on Saturday, on spot, before the first start of the event.
From 2015 the Tartu Maraton children’s complex event carries a new name: Tartu Maraton Mini Cube. Children can choose from six events to participate in at least four. 43rd Tartu Maraton children’s event opens the series. In 2015 series also includes: 33rd Tartu Jooksumaraton’s, 34th Tartu Rattaralli’s, 9th Tartu Rulluisumaraton’s, 18th Tartu Rattamaraton’s and 4th Tartu City Maraton’s children’s events.
All Club Tartu Maraton children’s events are free of charge and no winners are declared. All children receive a number 1 bib. After finishing the race, everyone gets a medal, diploma and a small bag with goods.

Dress rehearsal of the Demino Ski Marathon Worldloppet 2015!
On February, 8 2015 (Sunday), the largest ski event in the world the RUSSIAN SKI TRACK 2015 was hosted in Russia. More than 1.5 million people from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad participated in the event. As a part of the RUSSIAN SKI TRACK 2015, a dress rehearsal of the Demino Ski Marathon Worldloppet 2015 was held in the Ski Sport Center Demino. More than 1,500 participants in three age groups were at the start. As the majority of the skiers said, the organization of this competition was at the highest level. Special attention was given to the courses, availability of infrastructure and good transport services.
