Freund flies to victory, Fannemel to the record
Severin Freund won the second ski flying in Vikersund. Local hero Anders Fannemel, who set another world record on this spectacular weekend with 251.5 m in the first round, finished second and with Johann Andre Forfang and Rune Velta also the third and fourth place went to Norway.

Freund showed two top jumps on 237.5 m and 245 m (new German record) and took a clear win with a total of 436.7 points. He said afterwards: “Yesterday I was thinking about what I have to do differently to jump farther. And I realized that everything needs to be more extreme. Like in the second jump today, either I fly far or I land on the knoll. It was an amazing feeling, a totally new dimension. I was already asking myself how it's possible to stand a jump on 251.5 m. Now I want to take the emotions from here with me. It was an amazing weekend. Falun will be something different, but that's the case every weekend.”

"Best jump of my life"

Fannemel, who only jumped on 202 m in the final round, came in 42.7 points behind the winner. The new world record holder said: “I thought it would not be possible to jump longer than 250 m. Then I saw Vassiliev's jump on 254 m, this was the challenge. The conditions were perfect for long flights and I made the best jump of my life.” Johann Andre Forfang jumped on 214 m and 219 m and scored 274.6 points. He told later: “I was jumping very well today. I already had a good feeling yesterday and today I knew what I need to improve. The record of Anders Fannemel is incredible.”

Personal best for Kasai

27.4 points behind, Rune Velta was fourth with 210 m and 200.5 m. With 184 m in the first round and a total of 347.0 points, Noriaki Kasai missed the podium, but in the final round he set a personal best with 240.5 m.

Michael Neumayer achieved his best result this season in sixth with 203 m and 209.5 m and 333.4 points. Austria's Manuel Poppinger came in on a career best seventh place in the last competition before the World Championships with 332.6 points, his longest jump was on 203.5 m. Markus Eisenbichler, who jumped on 216.5 m in the first round, was eighth, 0.3 points behind the Austrian.

Jurij Tepes showed a strong jump on 214 m in the final and came in ninth with 331.1 points. Andreas Stjernen landed at fantastic 230.5 m in the first round and finished tenth with 317.5 points. Japanese Daiki Ito and Shohei Tochimoto came in 11th and 13th and also had jumps over the 200 m mark. The same applies for Nejc Dezman in 12th, Marinus Kraus in 14th and Poland's Piotr Zyla in 15th.

Bad jump for Prevc - Vassiliev flies too far

Peter Prevc, who was the first athlete to fly 250 m on Saturday, was only 16th this time after his final jump on only 110 m. Dimitry Vassiliev provided a highlight already in the qualification with an outstanding flight on 254 m, but he was not able to stand this jump. The former Ski Flying World Champion Robert Kranjec of Slovenia didn't have a 200 m jump today and finished 26th. The fact that Austrian Simon Greiderer could score a World Cup point in 30th with jumps on 115 m and 126 m shows how selective the huge hill in Vikersund is.

After the spectacular event in Norway the fight for World Championship medals is now starting next weekend. The first men's competition is the taking place on the normal hill in Falun on Saturday.
