Kofler and Eisenbichler miss first competition
It is now official who will get the chance to compete in the qualification for the normal hill competition on Friday, and who won't. Austrian Andreas Kofler and, surprisingly, also Germany's Markus Eisenbichler are among those who will not take part in the first competition of the WSC.
Gregor Schlierenzauer, Stefan Kraft, Michael Hayboeck and Thomas Diethart will compete for Austria. The German Ski Association named Severin Freund, Richard Freitag, Marinus Kraus and Andreas Wellinger, who just recovered from injury, to the team. And that although Eisenbichler showed a very strong performance in the first official training. Head coach Werner Schuster: "It was a very, very difficult decision. Markus Eisenbichler has had a downward trend, the others improved. At the end this was the decisive factor."
Five competitors for Norway
The only nation with five athletes in the competition will be Norway, thanks to defending champion Anders Bardal. Besides the veteran, world record holder Anders Fannemel, Rune Velta, Anders Jacobsen and Johann Andre Forfang will compete on Friday.
Four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann will also participate in the qualification. The Swiss didn't take part in any competition since his serious fall in the final event of the 4-Hills-Tournament. Besides overall World Cup leader Peter Prevc, Jernej Damjan, Jurij Tepes and Nejc Dezman will represent Slovenia.
Ahonen ahead of Olli
Ville Larinto, Jarkko Maeaettae, Lauri Asikainen and 4-Hills-Tournament record winner Janne Ahonen will compete for Finland, Harri Olli will not be on the team.
Junshiro Kobayashi earned the fourth spot for Japan, besides Noriaki Kasai, Taku Takeuchi and Daiki Ito.
Kamil Stoch, Jan Ziobro, Piotr Zyla, who was very strong in training, and Klemens Muranka were named to the Polish team.
Vitaliy Kalinichenko of the Ukraine, Sweden's Christian Inngjerdingen and Carl Nordin, Hungarian Peter Kelemen, Kristaps Nezhborts of Latvia and Greek Nico Polychronidis will also take part in the qualification, starting on Friday at 7:00 pm CET.
