FIS Telemark World Championships: Reymond and Mueller take parallel sprint titles
It was a hard fought battle between the usual suspects with one new comer placing her claim on the title hopes for the future. Norway’s Mathilde ILEBREKKE breaking into the top three again to secure her second WSC medal with silver. She just wasn’t strong enough to see off Amelie REYMOND of Switzerland who indicated that she is not quite ready to relinquish her tight grip at this level. Bronze went to Argeline TAN-BOUQUET of France.
In the men’s category it really was a race to watch. With France having four men progress to the quarter finals it could have been a fully-French affair. Two were eliminated by the small and big finals leaving Phil LAU and Antoine BOUVIER, who had struggled to find form in the Sprint on Tuesday. BOUVIER faced Nicolas MICHEL from Switzerland in the small finals and emerged victorious with a bronze medal. The main event in Steamboat Springs today was the battle for the World Championships Parallel Sprint title between LAU and Germany’s Tobias MUELLER but LAU made a couple of mistakes in the first run which put him behind MUELLER by a stretch which he fought hard to beat in the second run but MUELLER prevailed.
