Season over for Rebensburg and Mowinckel
Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg suffered an internal ligament tear in her left knee, while training giant slalom in Bad Wiessee (GER). The 25-year-old silver medalist from the Vail/Beaver Creek World Championships will not undergo surgery, if the healing process goes well. The knee has to be immobilised for now and rehabilitation could begin in around 12 days.
“I fell and slipped into the next gate. The ski was caught in the gate and it twisted my knee,” Rebenburg described. “This is, of course, very disappointing as it happened just before the home races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. On the other hand, it could have been worse. I’m forced to take a break now and I will then focus on rehabilitation and preparation for the next season.”
Rebensburg had four World Cup podium finishes in 2014-15 season. Two of them came in downhill and were her first career podiums in the discipline. She currently sits in third place in the downhill standings with 269 points, behind leader Lindsey Vonn (366) and Anna Fenninger (287).

Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel communicated on her Facebook page that she had to call an early end to her season after she sustained an ankle injury in the alpine combined race at Bansko.
“I’m sorry to say that I’m done pushing out of the start gate this season,” Mowinckel posted. “What I believed was a strained ankle ended up being a torn ligament instead. Not a major injury, but big enough to make the season end here for me. I’m lucky with this happening so close to the end of the season.”
The 22-year-old raced to a career-best fifth place in Küthai giant slalom last December. She has made the top 10 four times in total this season. At the World Championships in Vail-Beaver Creek, her best result was a ninth place in the alpine combined.
We wish Viktoria Rebensburg and Ragnhild Mowinckel speedy recoveries.
