Anders Bardal ends his successful career
Anders Bardal has decided to end his long and successful career in ski jumping. The Norwegian announced this in a media release on Thursday.
"After 25 years as a ski jumping, 15 of them in the World Cup, I have decided to quit ski jumping. On Sunday, March 15, 2015, I made my final jump on the Holmenkollen. I always said, that I wanted to retire as long as it's still going well. I now have the feeling that I don't have 100 % motivation anymore in order to do what is necessary to be among the best in the world", said Anders Bardal.
"I'm proud and thankful, that I could represent Norway in the sport, that I love the most. It was a long and eventful career with many ups and downs. Now I'm excited to see what it's like to live without ski jumping. Maybe I will return to the hill in some other role in the future. Now I will focus on other things in life. I have a very patient wife, who deserves that I'm home more often. I have kids, who need their father nearby. Together we will start building our own house in Steinkjer this summer", the 32-year-old told about his plans now.
Anders Bardal won a total of seven World Cup competitions in his career and took the overall title in the 2011/12 season. He won nine medals at World Championships and Olympic Games, among them WSC-Gold on the normal hill 2013 and with the team just a few weeks ago in Falun, and Olympic bronze in Sochi (normal hill) and Vancouver (team).
