Justyna Kowalczyk undergoes successful knee surgey
Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland had sharp pain in her knee during the sprint competitions last week in Drammen, Norway. As a result she ended her season early and opted for arthroscopic surgery to repair damaged meniscus. It was the same knee she had operated on three years ago, and it had bothered her throughout the season but not as severely as last week in Drammen.
Kowalczyk had agreed to compete in the remaining Swix Classics competitions. It is not expected that the surgery will affect the start of her training for next season.
As reported to sport.pl. "A quick decision, quick action, the effect it should be fast. Nothing should interfere with the preparations for next season," says Dr. Stanislaw Szymanik, physician staff in cross-country skiing who completed the procedure.
