Fenninger and Hirscher awarded in Salzburg
Last night, Austrian Overall World Cup Winners Anna Fenninger and Marcel Hirscher added another trophy to their collection.
The Salzburg region awarded the two most successful skiers of 2014/15 during a gala event held at the Terminal 2 of the Salzburg Airport.
Fenninger and Hirscher won female and male Salzburg’s Athlete of the Year awards.
For Hirscher, this was the fourth golden lion he took home, one for each year he has won the Overall World Cup title.
“I love it more and more, all good things seem to come in fours. It is always an honor to stand here at the top, our little Salzburg has unbelievable many great athletes,” Hirscher said to the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper.
For Fenninger, this is the third golden lion and it comes just as the cherry on the cake after a fantastic season which saw the battle for the Overall come down to the very last race.
"There is something special being athlete of the year - especially in this competition. I'm still a bit tense and nervous, even though the season is over," Fenninger said after accepting her award.
Fenninger and Hirscher were not the only members of the Austrian Ski Team to be awarded last night as their former teammate Marlies Schild, who retired last spring, was awarded a golden lion for her life’s contribution to the sport.
