Austrian Alexandra Daum retires
On Wednesday, a press release from the Austrian Ski Association announced that slalom specialist Alexandra Daum decided to retire from her active career as skiracer.
The 28-year-old Tyrolean has been a member of the Austrian national team since 2004. Daum competed in 94 Europa Cup and 47 World Cup races and achieved two Europa Cup podiums and three top-10 World Cup placements.
"After careful consideration, the time has come for me to end my career in alpine ski racing. During my time as a ski racer I have experienced many beautiful moments and gained important experiences. The way to the top was sometimes rocky and marked by many injuries, but I could always fight back. Ultimately, I had to realize that the training restrictions I had due to injuries have affected me negatively both physically and mentally, "Daum explained her reasons for retiring.
The past season, marked by good performances in training and many disappointments in competition helped Daum make a final decision regarding her career.
"It is my strong desire to thank all my teammates, the Austrians Federation, the coaches, doctors and physiotherapists. A special thanks goes to my family and sponsors, their years of support have been the foundation of my career. I want to thank my loyal fans who have always supported me, " Daum said.
The FIS Family wishes Alexandra all the best in her future!
