Anders Jacobsen announced his retirement
On Tuesday Norway's Anders Jacobsen announced that he wants to end his successful career in ski jumping.

"It feels a bit strange, but also right, to end my career now. After nine years in the World Cup I have decided that I want to start a new chapter in my life. I know, what is required from an athlete on the World Cup level and I have the feeling that I don't have the necessary motivation anymore in order to be among the world's best. There a many young jumpers coming up and if one of them could take my place with lots of energy and motivation I would be happy about it", the 30-year-old explains the reasons for his decision on skiforbundet.no.

"I'm proud and grateful that I could represent Norway over all these years. The atmosphere in ski jumping is unique and I will miss that. Now I have other priorities in my life. I have a wonderful family, who deserves that I'm home more often. I have two great kids, who need their dad every day. I'm excitied to find out how life will be without ski jumping and I'm looking forward to the new challenges."

Anders Jacobsen made his debut in the World Cup in 2006 and he won the 4-Hills-Tournament right in his first season, in the 2006/07 season he also achieved his best result in the overall World Cup in second. The athlete of the Flying Team Vikersund took a total of ten wins in the World Cup, the last one in this year's New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He won a total of eleven medals at World Championships and Olympic Games, among them Gold with the team at the last World Championships in Falun.

Seven Norwegians retire

After Anders Bardal, Vegard Sklett, Ole Marius Ingvaldsen, Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell, Atle Pedersen Roensen and Johan Martin Brandt, Jacobsen is already the seventh Norwegian athlete who announced his retirement this spring.
