Eetu Vähäsöyrinki ends his career
After careful consideration, Finnish athlete Eetu Vähäsöyrinki has announced today that he will end his career - in spite of the home World Championships in Lahti that are coming up in 2017.

„My life has reached a turning point. I have dedicated the last 10 years to the sport, now I have begun to feel that is is time to turn a new page in my life. In autumn 2014, I started with my studies at the College of Lappland in Rovaniemi. During the season 2014/15, I was on the verge of burnout at some points, to fit school into top level sports was too much for me and the sport suffered too much. There is not enough time for both, so at this point, my focus is education.“, Vähäsöyrinki writes on his blog.

„It would be awesome to compete at Lahti 2017 but at present it seems that I cannot motivate myself to go there. I decided to give myself time to make the biggest decision of my life and the May Day was my final deadline. During this past month, the motivation that I usually have for the new season can simply not be found, so my decision feels right. I would like to thank my family, friends and everybody else who has encouraged and motivated me in my sports career.“

The 25-year-old competed in 33 World Cups and started at the Olympics in Sochi and the World Championships in Oslo, Val di Fiemme and Falun.

Same as Vähäsöyrinki, team veteran Janne Ryynänen does not show up in the Finnish team lists for the new season as he hasn’t announced his future yet.
