„I tried to change my training plan a bit!“
Things were definitely looking bright at the end of last season for Italian team leader Alessandro Pittin: a silver medal in Falun and two podium results in Trondheim and Oslo, the unlucky spell that he was under for the last two seasons which consisted of injuries and poor results seemed to be broken. In this latest edition of TUESDAY TALK, Pittin talks about his training plans for the summer, why the World Cup in Val di Fiemme is among his most important goals next winter.
How is the season preparation going?
Alessandro Pitin: I tried to change my training plan for the summer preparation a bit, going to the jumping hills more often but with less jumps in every session. This helped me to fix some technical problems. By the end of June we also had a roller ski test and it went really well, unfortunately the day after I crashed with the mountain-bike (again on my left shoulder) and had to recover for some days. Now I had a really intense month of trainings, doing also one camp with the cross-country team in Lama Mocogno near Modena; it was a nice experience!
With the departure of Jochen Strobl, the head coach position had to be refilled. How’s the new staff structure in the team working?
Pittin: We had some problems during spring to find out a good solution regarding team staff but then everything was fixed and now we are able to work in the right way. I still have a different training plan because of my personal cross-country coach and so I decided to have one more person to help me in the ski jumping preparation.
Which training camps have you done this spring and what is on schedule in the next few weeks?
Pittin: We started in June with three training camps between Tarvisio and Val di Fiemme. In July, I had some different plans with the camp together with the cross-country team and again with my teammates in Predazzo. In August, I will focus more on ski jumping to improve even more my skills. We will have two more training camps before the Summer Grand Prix, first in Tarvisio and than in Val di Fiemme.
Will we see you and the Italian team on start in the Summer Grand Prix at the end of August?
Pittin: We are planning to start in the Summer Grand Prix but actually I don't know what I'm going to do. I will take a decision next week.
Last winter was a bit of a comeback season for you after two tough years with injuries and setbacks. What are your goals for the upcoming winter?
Pittin: I’m really satisfied about the second half of the season and to win the silver at the World Championships was great! With no big events in the next season we are focusing on the World Cup and the Finals will be held in Val di Fiemme, that’s almost my hometown, so that will be an important weekend for me.
