Sky Tavern – a different style of ski resort

Sky Tavern is an all-volunteer staffed ski area that teaches kids snowsports. Everyone involved from the top to bottom are volunteers making sure kids get out in the winter.

World Snow Day 2016 is opening the weekend of the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program. It will include 2000 kids on the slopes with parents as the volunteer staff of a ski area there to teach them. Lessons will^run all morning and then there will be free skiing all afternoon. Described affectionately as controlled chaos, this has been happening every winter since 1948.

In celebration of World Snow Day, special events to engage kids even further will take place. Returning participants can show off in the terrain park or other competitions that set an example for the beginners. SkyKids (age 3-6) could be digging away at the snow taking away anything that doesn’t look like an alligator or just sliding down a snow slide. First time older participants will be part of the NSAA Safety program with poster making of the Responsibility Code. This is something drilled into every participant at the beginning of the eight week program.
