Anssi Koivuranta starts pilot training

In May Anssi Koivuranta announced that he will not be competing next season. This break from ski jumping will now definitely be longer than just this one year.

The Finn, who is the only athlete who won a World Cup competition in ski jumping and nordic combined, plans to focus on his professional career in the near future.

"It's not a secret anymore. I've dreamt of becoming a pilot since I was a child. In November I will now start the pilot training in Helsinki", the 27-year-old is quoted on seiska.fi.

This decision does not mean the definite end of his career in ski jumping. Anssi Koivuranta doesn't rule out a possible return after the two-year training. "It means I'll take a break from sports for a few years, but I'm still young enough. Janne Ahonen was already 35 years old when he started his comeback."
