Forum Nordicum in Sklarska Poreba

For the first time in its 36-year history, the Forum Nordicum ‘Union of Nordic Ski Journalists’ was staged in Sklarska Poreba (POL).

One of the highlights of the three days of meetings was the FIS Day, which was held on Tuesday, 13th October. FIS President Gian Franco Kasper and Secretary General Sarah Lewis provided the more than 50 journalists with information and updates on everything from future World Championships to the Olympic Winter Games.

In addition, the journalists listened to presentations from the three FIS Nordic disciplines, which reviewed the 2014/15 season, while providing a preview of the upcoming season. Of particular interest were the discussions about the equipment measuring changes in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined, in addition to the on-going discussions about preserving the classical technique in Cross-Country.

All three Nordic Disciplines also discussed their season highlights. The Four-Hills-Tournament, together with the 2016 World Ski Flying Championships in Kulm (AUT) will be the two peaks on the Ski Jumping calendar, while Nordic Combined will continue to grow the Triple, which will return for a third edition in Seefeld (AUT). Finally, Cross-Country will have two highlights with the 10thAnniversary of the Tour de Ski and a newly established Canadian Tour to close the season.

The Organising Committee of the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti also provided an update to the members on the FIS Day. Wednesday, as per tradition, the conversation turned to Biathlon and its season plans, while on Thursday, the IOC will present its new media strategy with the Olympic Channel to the journalists.
