Severin Freund was named "Winter Sports Athlete of the Year" by the German Ski Association (DSV).
This title was awarded for the first time this year and all active athletes of the DSV were entitled to vote. Nominated were those athletes, who were presented with the "Golden Ski" in the various disciplines for their outstanding performances last season.
Besides the 27-year-old, who won the overall World Cup title and two gold medals (large hill and mixed team) at the World Championships last winter, World Champion Carina Vogt, nordic combined athlete Eric Frenzel and alpine skier Felix Neureuther were among the nominees.
"This award will get a special place in my apartment. I voted for Eric Frenzel and I was told that it was a very close race between us", said Severin Freund.
