Cortina 2021 outlines strategy
With winter on the way, the 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championship Candidate Cortina d’Ampezzo outlined details of its bid between now and the election at the FIS Congress in Cancun (MEX) in June 2016.
The President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI), Flavio Roda, clarified the procedures and operating methods for Cortina’s application.
FISI and the Municipality of Cortina are placing the highest priority on the application, with the goal to be awarded the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships next June.
The main focus is to ensure that the necessary permits can be obtained to enable the various construction projects to get underway by spring 2016.
In the lead up to the election, FISI and the Municipality of Cortina, the two key partners involved in application will take the lead. The next steps will be to formalise the Organising Committee of the World Championship, which will be made up of individuals from FISI, the Veneto Region, the City of Cortina, and a representative of local interests.
Flavio Roda, together with the representatives of the institutions, will oversee all operations to ensure that the technical requirements will follow the correct process of planning and approval. Following the election in Cancun in June 2016, a timeframe for the various construction projects will be established which will allow Cortina to deliver all the facilities on time for a successful World Championship and future legacy for the resort.
