After a total of 45 World Cup starts of which he finished five times on the podium including one win in Calgary 2008 Brad Martin has officially retired.
The 29-year-old snowboarder explained in an interview with thespec.com that he did start thinking about his future after the Sochi Olympics and finally came to the decision that he wants to do something new.
In addition, he is happy to walk away on two healthy legs from a sport which takes some toll from the body from time to time although he had his injury setbacks, too.
Now, with three consecutive Olympics since Torino 2006 under his belt and a total of seven world championships start where he earned one bronze in Arosa, Switzerland back in 2007, Martin is looking forward to a more relaxed life and is ready for some new tasks.
He has already taken some firefighting courses, and the only born-and-raised Hamiltonian (Ancaster, to be specific) ever to compete in three Winter Olympics will also start coaching to keep his hand in things.
