The Kulm is ready for the Ski Flying Worlds

44 days before the Ski Flying World Championships in Bad Mitterndorf (AUT) the preparations are in full swing and the reconstruction works on the famous Kulm-hill are almost complete.

Besides an adjustment of the hill profile, that shall lead to a lower flying curve, especially over the knoll, also a new ice inrun track was installed.

"The new track is almost finished and already working. For the preparation of the 121.3 meters long inrun track we need about 3.5 cubic meters of artificial snow. This will be applied in the track mixed with a lot of water and then it's frozen. The ice track will be 3.5 cm thick and have a temperature of minus 7°C", said Juergen Winkler, head of sports in the local organizing committee.

The snow production for the facility, on which overall World Cup winner Severin Freund holds the hill record with 237.5 m, is also already underway. "All in all we need 5000 cubic meters of artificial snow. We have half of it already."

Game App for the event available

Not only the athletes, also the fans can now experience what it feels like to fly on the Kulm, even if only virtually. The app "Kulm Skiflug WM 2016" with a ski flying game is now available for smartphones and tablets. The jumps in the game are commentated by Andreas Goldberger and Martin Koch.

"This way you can experience the fascination of ski flying first hand. With special online rankings everyone can enter the sweepstakes and has the chance to experience the Ski Flying World Championships at the Kulm live", told the chairman of the OC, Hubert Neuper.
