Ester Ledecka surprises ski world

The Czech snowboard star impresses the alpine skiing athletes with a successful debut on the World Cup tour.

One week after bringing home a third rank finish from the psl ramp event in Moscow, Russia the 20-year-old from Prague placed 24th at the Kandahar downhill of Garmisch-Partenkirchen making February 6th another milestone in her career.

The reigning 2015 parallel slalom snowboard world champion impressed with a strong performance leaving other athletes like former giant slalom world champion Tessa Worley (FRA) behind.

Ledecka is therefore on a good way to fulfil her dream of leading a perfect winter sport double life.

„I cannot explain what just happened or how I managed to get that far,“ she said.

„No one has tried what I do before, to be good in both different sports. But I want to be the first one to make it,“ she told German press agency dpa.

With World Cup results in the books in both, snowboarding and alpine skiing, the 2014 Olympian and current pgs and overall alpine snowboarding World Cup leader with five snowboard world cup wins under her belt is ready for more: competing in both disciplines at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.

Results of the Kandahar race are available online.
