Cologna to start Vasaloppet and Engadin

Dario Cologna will miss the World Cup finals in Canada due to ongoing calf injury. The strain in the calf is indeed cured, but the muscle is still insufficiently strong to cope with the intense Canada Tour with eight competitions in eleven days.

Thus, the triple Olympic champion has had to change his race program and set new goals. The focus is still on a sustainable structure of the calf muscles with regard to coming big events. In order to utilize his good form and stay in the competition rhythm Dario Cologna has decided to contest the Vasaloppet and the Engadine Ski Marathon. The prestigious Vasaloppet 90km in Sweden is part of the Ski Classics series and is the oldest cross-country event in history. To prepare Dario Cologna starts on Gommerlauf in Goms. After Vasaloppet Dario Cologna plans to start the Engadin Ski Marathon and end of the season Cologna contests the Swiss Championships in Zweisimmen.

"I could easily work in the last few days and I feel in good shape, but the Canada tour would be too high a stress on my calf muscles. I am pleased to have yet found two interesting, athletic goals with the Vasaloppet and the Engadin. The Engadin Ski Marathon and the Swiss Championships to end my season are exciting challenges in front of a home crowd. In addition, I can recover between each competitions at home," says Cologna.
