Akito Watabe knows how to fly also in Kuopio
Japan’s Akito Watabe proved to be the strongest man on the hill also at Nordic Combined’s return to Kuopio, 15 years after the last World Cup events in the Finnish town. With 132.5 metres and 127.7 points, Watabe captured the top spot of the list, leading fellow great jumper Håvard Klemetsen showed 125.5 metres and 122.5 points meant a 21 second deficit should the PCR be used. Eric Frenzel had a weaker jump that still carried the World Cup leader to 126 metres and 119.3 points which would mean +0:34 on the track.

Next to jumping talents Mario Seidl, Manuel Faißt, Takehiro Watanabe and Ernest Yahin, the usually stronger skiers Jørgen Graabak, Johannes Rydzek and Fabian Rießle also entered the Top Ten of the PCR, Rießle starting with a time behind of one minute and six seconds as tenth. Local hero Ilkka Herola has to hope for better luck in tomorrow’s competition with position 17 and one minute and 21 seconds of time deficit in the PCR.
