Skiing Legends Brå, Wassberg & Mieto Participate In Show Race

Skiing legends Oddvar Brå, Thomas Wassberg and Juha Mieto participated in a show race today at the Kulåssprinten in Sarpsborg, Norway, years after their legendary battles in the 70's and 80's. Since Mieto (66) recently underwent hip surgery, the show race ended with a joint finish between with Wassberg (59) and Mieto's stand-in, Lars-Erik Eriksen, while Mieto cheered on from his crutches. "This was fun" commented Brå (65). "It's not too often I see Juha. There have been many years since we were last together". Brå is famous for his broken pole in the World Championships relay in Oslo, where Norway shared gold with the Soviet Union. Equally legendary were the battles between Wassberg and Mieto, the highlight of which was the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980, where Wassberg beat Mieto by 1/100 of a second in the 15 kilometer classic event, the closest ever finish in cross country skiing at the Olympics.
