St. Moritz Finals a preview for 2017 World Championships

The Audi FIS Ski World Cup season finals are always a key event on the Alpine calendar, but this year they are taking on significant importance as they are serving for the test event for the 2017 Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI).

On the competition side, the ladies’ tour has home field advantage as they have an annual World Cup stop in the Swiss resort. Meanwhile, the men will get their first taste of the St. Moritz slopes since 2003, making this week’s events particularly important for World Championship preparations.

Away from the action on the slopes, the Organisers have lined up a series of events to give fans and athletes a taste of the atmosphere that will await the World one year from now. Every evening, there is a full line-up of social events, from concerts, to bib draws to DJ battles.

Fans can keep track of all of the events on the Finals App, which will also be the basis for the World Championship App. The St. Moritz 2017 mascot has also been unveiled.

Meanwhile, the infrastructure is undergoing its first taste of action with race offices, transportation, accreditation, and media services all operating at a World Championship level.

“Having the World Cup Season Finals is very useful for us as an Organiser. Not only does it generate excitement in the community about the upcoming World Championships, but it gives us a great opportunity to have a dress rehearsal before next year’s Championships,” said Organising Committee President Hugo Wetzel.
