Marco Grigoli announces his retirement

Marco Grigoli of Switzerland has announced the end of his ski jumping career on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old had his last competition late December 2014 in Engelberg. There he suffered a serious foot injury and has been struggling with this injury ever since.

"Three surgeries, six months on crutches and dozens of hours of physical therapy didn't bring the success I had hoped for. So, after one and a half years, I now decided to retire from competitive sports. The time in the rehabilitation was full of ups and downs, new starts and emotional highs and lows. Time passed by very slowly and my patience was waning. At the end the constant failure and the continuous pain was crucial for this decision. My strength and patience was used up", Marco Grigoli explained this decision on his facebook page.

The Swiss, who now wants to work as a teacher, doesn't want to say farewell to ski jumping completely. "My goal is to remain a part of the ski jumping family and to follow everything from a different perspecitve. I hope that I'll get to meet many of you again at the hills or at other places."

Marco Grigoli made his debut in the World Cup in February 2010 and achieved his best result in March 2012 with a 15th place in Trondheim.
