Åre 2019 all set to go from ‘Good to Great’

The third Coordination Group meeting for the 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre (SWE) was held under sunny skies this week in the northern Swedish resort.

Representatives from FIS, the Åre 2019 Local Organising Committee, Swedish Ski Association, the Town of Åre and Infront Sports were on hand to go over the latest progress during the busy winter season.

First and foremost on the agenda was the technical inspection by FIS Race Directors Atle Skaardal and Marcus Waldner, who took a look at the courses for the ladies’ and men’s races. Åre is an annual host of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup ladies’ tour and much of the infrastructure is already in place, but there are new exciting developments for both courses and facilities in the venue, which will also serve the future annual competitions in an even better way.

Back in the boardroom, the Organisers outlined their latest steps, including the implementation of the Åre 2019 identity and logo, volunteer recruitment plans, and announcing the construction of a new Main Press Centre, which will be located directly at the finish area. Other logistical details were also discussed as the Åre Team is well prepared to go from ‘Good to Great’.

“Åre hosted very good World Championships in 2007, and it is clear that the Organising Committee is well on track to build on that success in 2019. The excitement in the community is already evident such as volunteer recruitment for next year’s Junior World Championships already nearly complete”, said FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis.

“We look forward to the long collaboration with FIS and the last two days of meetings point that we will have a very fruitful working relationship in the next three years in the lead-up to the World Championships,” said Niklas Carlsson, Åre 2019 CEO.
