The FIS World Cup Speed Ski season came to an end last weekend with the Season Finals in Idre Fjäll (SWE).
Throughout the winter, Italy was the dominant force as they claimed top spot in all of the races.
In the ladies’ category, Valentina Greggio won every competition and only had to share first place once with Lisa Hovland-Uden (SWE) as they tied in the last competition. The reigning World Cup Champion had a memorable season as she also set a new world record at a non-FIS Speedmaster event two weeks ago in Vars (FRA).
Top 3 ladies:
Valentina Greggio (ITA) – 700 points
Lisa Hovland-Uden (SWE) – 340 points
Celia Martinez (FRA) – 280 points
The men’s side saw a fierce battle between two Italian brothers: reigning World Cup Champion Ivan and eight-time World Cup Champion Simone Origone. Throughout the season, the two kept alternating the top spots on the podium.
It was not until the last two races in Idre Fjäll when this pattern was broken. Ivan, who had broken his brother’s world record in Vars two weeks before, finished third and fifth, while Simone was victorious in both events and secured his ninth overall crystal globe.
In the past 13 seasons, Italian men have claimed the crystal globe an astonishing 11 times.
Top 3 men:
Simone Origone (ITA) – 560 points
Ivan Origone (ITA) – 465 points
Klaus Schrottshammer (AUT) – 325 points
After the Season Finals in Idre Fjäll, the Speed Skiing community is looking forward to next winter when the Swedish resort will host the FIS Speed Ski World Championships, welcoming the world's fastest skiers to the challenging Chocken track.
