Elan stops production of ski jumping skis

Ski manufacturer Elan decided to withdraw from ski jumping with immediate effect. This means that both current overall World Cup champions, Sara Takanashi (JPN) and Peter Prevc (SLO), will have to find a new partner.

The Slovenian winter sports supplier surprisingly announced today that they will withdraw from this sport. As a reason Elan, which was taken over by a new investor this year, mentioned the fact that an investment in ski jumping is not profitable anymore.

Obviously not even the huge success last season could prevent this step. Peter Prevc won a record number of 15 World Cup events, the Ski Flying World Championship title and the overall World Cup with Elan. Sara Takanashi won 14 of the 17 competitions last winter and the overall World Cup title.

"Based on our new strategy we have decided to stop funding the ski jumping program", the company explained in a media release. Elan is now looking for a buyer for the production that comprises about 800 skis.

Adam Malysz (POL) was also among those athletes, who achieved their biggest successes with Elan skis.
