Snow Sports participation numbers show positive signs

For the 2015/16 season a number of resorts have reported positive skier and snowboarder visitor results. Jackson Hole (USA) has reported its second highest number of visitors on record. Whereas Skistar, Scandanvia’s largest resort operator, reported a 9% increase in booking volumes compared to the previous year, in part due to its strong Valle’s kids programme.

According to an independent report on mountain tourism there are an estimated 125 million skiers and snowboarders. The report has tracked visits since 2000 and states the numbers of skiers and snowboarders is stable.

FIS President Gian Franco Kasper said: “These signs are good, but can also be dangerous. Many will feel they can rest on their laurels, when in fact this is the perfect time to make a push. FIS will be doing this with the Bring Children to the Snow campaign and we hope everyone will join.”
