30th anniversary celebrations in Tignes
On 30th April 2016, a gathering took place in Tignes (FRA) where the Organisers, retired athletes and competition officials participated in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the first ever FIS Freestyle Ski World Championship France in January 1986. The special event was hosted by the Mayor of Tignes, organised by the Club des Sports de Tignes and it was supported by many Freestyle skiers from France and officials from the French Ski Association.

FIS Freestyle Skiing Coordinator Joseph Fitzgerald who was the Assistant Technical Delegate at the competition 30 years ago, stated: “We'd like to thank all individuals involved in organising this competition so many years ago and Tignes for their real support and genuine love of our discipline. It was great to reminisce and speak with all of those who participated in and organised this very important competition, which actually led to the inclusion of Freestyle Skiing into the Olympic programme 1992.”

Tignes has hosted 27 years of FIS World Cup competitions, the FIS World Championships and the Freestyle Skiing events for the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville.
