Swiss halfpipe specialist Yannic Lerjen has officially retired from competitive sports. The 2015 world championships bronze medallist now aims for another role within freestyle skiing.
Set back by several injuries over the past couple of years, the 25-year-old was sidelined from action during the complete 2015-16 winter season as he luxated his left shoulder during a strength training unit last October.
Doctors then find out that his shoulder injury suffered August before hadn't healed yet.
As a result, Lerjen said: “After so many injuries sustained in the past years, I decided to step back from top-class sport.”
“I want to thank Swiss Freeski as well as the whole Swiss family for the ongoing great support,” he added whilst also underlining that he hopes to start a career as a coach to share his experience with some up-and-coming talents.
Lerjen made his debut on the World Cup circuit back in 2011. The 2014 Olympian (rank 14) competed in a total of 15 World Cup competitions with the 2015 world champs bronze medal being his career's highlight.
