International junior camp in Norway
The Norwegian Ski Association invites 76 junior Cross-Country skiers from nine nations to Norway to train and be inspired for a future career in sports. The training camp, called Statoil’s international talent camp in Cross-Country skiing, is taking place from 10th-17th August 2016 in Oslo and at Sjusjøen not far from Lillehammer. Athletes from Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy, South Korea, Lithuania, Slovenia, United States, Great Britain and Norway will participate at the camp this year.
During this busy week, the young athletes, all born in 1997 and 1998, will participate in several training sessions each day. These include mud race, roller ski race, mountain hikes and uphill running, as well as physical tests for both strength, flexibility and speed. In addition there are also motivational and theoretical sessions led by some of Norway’s best Cross-Country skiers and trainers. Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Sondre Turvoll Fossli from the Norwegian National team will also join in for some of the sessions where they will give practical tips and share their own experiences with the young talents.
The importance of sharing competence is a key component during the training camp, both between athletes and trainers from the different national associations. By gathering so many young talents from such a wide range of nationalities, the athletes have a unique opportunity to share knowledge so that cross-country skiing as a sport can continue to grow and develop.
The international talent camp in cross-country skiing is a part of the talent development program “Heroes of Tomorrow” which is collaboration between The Norwegian Ski Association and Statoil.
