Construction at the Kulm on schedule
The first ski flying event of the upcoming season will be held next January on the hill at the Kulm in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria. And then the athletes will fly on a completely new facility.

The construction work there started early June. The take-off table was moved back 23 meters, currently the works on the knoll and the landing area are in full swing and also the judges' tower is heightened by one floor.

"The profile and the flying curve has to be adjusted according to modern standards. The whole landing area will be broadened. So far it was only 7.5 m broad right after the take-off table, in the future it will be 16 m. At the height of the k-point it will be broadened from about 30 m to 40 m", chief of the hill Lambert Grill explains.

After the construction longer jumps shall be possible, currently Gregor Schlierenzauer holds the hill record with 215.5 m. "The facility will be really big. Actually it will then have the same profile as Vikersund and it will be a K 200 with a hill size of 225. Usually we have tailwind here in the afternoon when the weather is good, so distances of about 230 m are realistic."

If everything continues to go according to plan, the construction works shall be completed by mid or late November, so that the snow production at the facility can start early December. "I don't see any problems, it will be finished on time. Minor difficulties can always occur, but it will work", Lambert Grill told FIS Ski Jumping.

The World Cup at the Kulm-hill will take place from January 9th to 11th, 2015.
