Eric Frenzel named „Champion of the Year“
After losing out to javelin thrower Christina Obergföll last year, 2014 it was finally the time for Nordic Combined superstar Eric Frenzel to shine: he finally claimed the prestigious title of „Champion of the year“ by being elected by 73 of his fellow German top athletes, including the winners of the title in the last years since 2000.
To be eligible for the „Champion of the year“ vote, the 3800 athletes who are supported by the German Sporthilfe have to vote for their top five athletes of the year which ended in Frenzel being nominated along with double canoe World Champion Sebastian Brendel, 3-time European diving champion Patrick Hausding, double Olympic Champion in luge, Felix Loch, and 3-time World Champion in track cycling, Kristina Vogel.
Frenzel’s victory was announced by the previous year’s winner, Christina Obergföll at a gala event at Soma Bay, Egypt where all German medal-winning athletes since September 2013 had been enjoying a sunny getaway. With his victory comes a brand-new Smart car and another holiday trip to enjoy for Frenzel and his family.
