Kober fully recovered and with high hopes
February 22, 2014 marks a date which no German snowboard fan will forget that quickly. Not only because Anke Karstens and Amelie Kober secured two Olympic medals in the Parallel Slalom event for their home country but also because of how Kober earned Bronze.
Having suffered a painful elbow injury only three days before in the Parallel Giant Slalom event which withheld her from being able to raise her left arm in the parallel slalom race, the 2006 Olympic Silver medallist bearded the aches and pains, fought impressively round after round and finally crossed the finish line only 13 hundreds ahead of Italian Corinna Boccacini in the small final.
With the race being part of the history already, Kober is happy to have finally overcome her injury.
“I'm fully recovered, and my doctors are surprised how good everything has healed. It was tough in the beginning as it took more time as I actually had been expecting but now everything is good again,” she said after having received the 'Athlete of the Year' award alongside Anke Karstens from the German Federation called Snowboard Germany.
However, the 26-year-old from Fischbachau also had to fight with some other minor ailments during the summer.
“I was sick quite often, but I guess it's normal if you train a lot. Your immune system plays out from time to time. Especially if you have someone who brings home every epidemic possible from kindergarten,” added the mother of one.
Despite those ups and downs over the course of her summer preps the alpine snowboarder, who recently started to study Business Psychology at the FHAM Edring, is feeling well-prepared and ready for another World Cup season, which will kick off with a parallel giant slalom in Carezza, Italy Dec 13, 2014.
“On the one hand I'm aiming for a top result in the Overall Alpine Snowboard World Cup Ranking. On the other hand, I want to do well at the World Champs,” explains the two-time Bronze medal winner of the last worlds in Canada.
“Therefore, I hope to fulfil the national qualification criteria as soon as possible.”
The World Championships course in Lachtal is no stranger to her as she participated in last seasons Europa Cup to get to know the slopes.
“I know the hill but Organisers were planning to adjust a view things. I'm curios how everything looks now,” Kober said.
