Werner Schuster extends contract in Germany
Werner Schuster will remain head coach of the German ski jumpers for the next couple of years. The Austrian and the German Ski Association (DSV) agreed to extend the contract until 2019.
"Werner Schuster did a very good job in the past years. In addition to his main work as a coach, he was able to set new impulses and develop innovative concepts in close cooperation with Horst Huettel, the athletic director for ski jumping. I'm glad about Werner Schuster's decision to continue his job as head coach for men's ski jumping", Karin Orgeldinger, sports director for the nordic disciplines, is quoted in a media release of the DSV.
Not only the Ski Association, but also Werner Schuster is happy about the continuation of the cooperation. "In the past years we were able to set the course for German ski jumping. The coaching staff in Germany works together and the team has big potential. Over the next years I want to continue doing my part in further developing the whole system."
The head coach is also optimistic when it comes to the World Cup opening. "We laid the foundation for a good start of the season and so we are confident before the first international competitions. Our athletes are healthy and fit to compete. We expect exciting competitions in Klingenthal and we are really looking forward to it. Even if we know that we won't get any bonus points for last season's success, we want to start competing with a certain self-confidence after the good performances in training."
The German team for the two competitions this weekend will consist of Severin Freund, Andreas Wellinger, Richard Freitag, Marinus Kraus, Andreas Wank, Markus Eisenbichler and Michael Neumayer. Of course, the athletes are looking forward to their home event at the beginning of the season. "I'm really looking forward to Klingenthal because there will be a great atmosphere and this is very good for us at the season opener", said Andreas Wellinger.
And Severin Freund agrees with his teammate. "It's good for ourselves and for the sport to start the season in front of our home crowd. The fans will get involved right from the start. It's important to have a good start of the season. Before the first World Cup, or maybe even the first few competitions, you never know who is in a great shape. The level of performance will be really tight also this year - but we are very well prepared. I hope for a good start of the winter - with stable weather conditions and fair competitions."
