Applications open for 19th Matteo Baumgarten Award
For the 19th time, the Baumgarten family is inviting interested young athletes to apply for the Matteo Baumgarten Award, an annual prize that commemorates the life their son Matteo Baumgarten by recognising young athletes who whilst competing are also completing their studies and education.
In 1996, the Baumgarten family suffered the tragic loss of their son Matteo Baumgarten in a car accident. He had shown great promise as a future Alpine World Cup skier and balanced his training regime with a determination to succeed in his education. The loss of beloved son motivated the Baumgarten family to remember him by recognising those who share his life’s path.
This year, the scope of the award has been altered to allow athletes from all FIS disciplines to participate in the event. All FIS member National Ski Associations are therefore invited to enter up to three young athletes (between 18 and 24 years) to be considered for the award. Further information can be found in the info sheet.
