Fannemel wins qualification with amazing flight
With an amazing jump on 246 m Anders Fannemel won the qualification on the huge hill in Vikersund. Fannemel landed only 0.5 m short of the world record held by his fellow countryman Johan Remen Evensen. With 223.4 points the Norwegian came in ahead of his teammate Andreas Stjernen and Japanese Daiki Ito.

He told afterwards: “It was an incredible feeling. I was flying a bit to the side, otherwise it would have been a record. The landing was not a problem. The conditions are very good, a new world record is possible.”

Peter Prevc also closely missed a new record, the pre-qualified Slovene landed at 245.5 m.

Stjernen strong as well

Stjernen, who already did great in training, jumped on 224 m for 202.3 points, Ito followed with 216.5 m and 194.9 points. The best German, Marinus Kraus, came in fourth with 214.5 m and 190.8 points. Dimitry Vassiliev finished on a very good fifth place with 212 m and 186.8 points. Behind Taku Takeuchi, who was sixth with 208 m and 185.0 points, Kenneth Gangnes qualified in seventh with 201.5 m and 181.0 points. Stephan Leyhe was eighth with 201 m and 176.6 points, Daniel Andre Tande (174.9 points) and Phillip Sjoeen (174.4 points) also jumped over the 200 m mark and finished ninth and tenth.

After a disappointing weekend in Titisee-Neustadt, Nejc Dezman showed a good performance again. He was 12th behind Shohei Tochimoto. Behind Gregor Deschwanden, was was 13th with 201.5 m, none of the athletes could fly longer than 200 m. Robert Kranjec qualified in 14th.

Jacobsen avoids fall

Anders Jacobsen, 15th in the qualification, provided an adrenalin rush for the spectators in training. Shortly after the take-off he lost control of his flight, but he was able to land safely at 85 m. Apart from Manuel Poppinger, the Austrian team for the World Championships in Falun is not competing in Vikersund. Out of the young Austrian this weekend, Simon Greiderer (17th) and Ulrich Wohlgenannt (22nd) could qualify for the competition, just like Bulgaria's Vladimir Zografski, who was 21st. For the first time in four years, Harri Olli will take part in a World Cup competition outside of Finland. The Finn was 30th and made the cut.

Personal best for Kasai

Besides the already mentioned Peter Prevc, Noriaki Kasai showed the best performance of the pre-qualified athletes. He set a new personal best with 235 m. Ski Flying World Champion Severin Freund jumped on 222.5 m.

The competition starts on Saturday at 4:00 pm CET.
