FIS Rollerski 2015 season summary

The FIS Rollerski competition season started in Stockholm on 26th June and season ended in São Carlos (Brasil) on 2nd November. The total number of participants in this summer FIS Rollerski events exceeded 500 athletes from 24 nations with 2 newcomers nations - Mongolia and Brazil.

Rollerski season peaked in end of September, the world’s top roller skiers and many Cross-Country skiers gathered in Val di Fiemme (ITA) for the FIS Rollerski World Championships. Sweden was the most successful nation with 9 medals (3 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze) ahead of host Italy with 8 medals (2,4,2) and Russia with 5 medals (2,1,2).

Sweden also took the overall World Cup titles in both the ladies’ and men’s categories by Linn Soemskar and Robin Norum. In the junior category, first overall places went to Olga Letucheva (RUS) and Marcus Fredriksson (SWE). Letucheva Olga and Becchis Emanuele showed exceptional sprint performance all season long by winning all World Cup Sprint competitions including Sprint in World Championships.

According to proposal and decision made in Varna this summer was 1st historical rollerski competitions season where FIS Cross Country Skiing points were introduced. During autumn meetings in Zurich, the Sub Committee for Roller Skiing discussed several new proposals that were submited to the FIS Council. Most of proposals focused on rising quality and publicity of FIS Rollerski World Cup competitions. This includes gradual increase in total prize money, introduction of Stage event rules and other articles.
