Mönchengladbach to host 2016-17 Big Air World Cup stop

The city of Mönchengladbach, Germany will be hosting a spectacular FIS Snowboard World Cup next season.

In December 2016, the world's best snowboarders will compete in the Lower Rhine town for the first time ever while top bands, DJs and a large product promotion area will round off the event ensuring an unique winter-sport and festival atmosphere.

The Sparkassenpark will play host for the world's finest in exactly one year from now on December 3rd and 4th.

The Mayor of the future FIS World Cup host Hans Wilhelm Reiners said during this week's press conference:

“Mönchengladbach and the entire region is known for its love for sports. It will be a fantastic and spectacular event that we are all looking forward to already."

Local event organiser Johannes Janz of managing partner Jever Fun Skihalle Neuss added that "we are delighted to be able to put on a winter-sport event in Mönchengladbach once again.

Our Synchro Ski Races on Hindenburgstraße were unique and were a milestone for us. After 15 years it's great to be back at the starting line at such a prestigious event in our old home town.”

And also FIS Snowboard Race Director Uwe Beier is happy that big air finally returns to Germany after ten years.

“With the last big airs dating back to 2005 and 2006 in Winterberg, it's great that we will have a Big Air World Cup stop in Germany again which is actually an in-city event.

In addition, the early announcements underlines the importance of our tour and that a lot of Local Organisers are willing to fully commit to host an event like this which not only covers the attractive sport but also has more thanks to music acts etc.”

After Berlin (2002), Munich (2003, 2004) and Winterberg (2005, 2006), Mönchengladbach will be the fourth German venue to ever host a big air World Cup event.
