It is anniversaries galore in December on the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup with three host venues celebrating major milestones.
Val d’Isere (FRA) marked its 60-year anniversary of staging Alpine races with its ‘Criterium de la Premiere Neige’ Club in grand fashion with a gala dinner that included many personalities from the sport, most notably Alpine Ski legend Jean-Claude Killy. Throughout the men’s World Cup races during the weekend, there were a series of celebrations going on in the French village.
The same weekend, several hundred kilometres to the north, Are (SWE) celebrated its 100th World Cup event. Lucky number 100 came during the ladies’ Audi FIS Ski World Cup slalom race and was also celebrated throughout the town in several different locations.
Finally, this week, Alta Badia (ITA) will mark its 30th year anniversary when the men’s FIS Alpine World Cup tour stops there for its traditional giant slalom. A new format of the parallel giant slalom will also be staged in Alta Badia.
