Lake Placid MO/AE World Cup cancelled

There was more unfortunate news on the FIS Freestyle World Cup circuit today, as it was announced that the aerials and moguls World Cup events slated for New York state's Lake Placid from January 14-16 were cancelled due to a lack of snow and enduring warm temperatures on the USA's east coast.

In a statement, New York State’s Olympic Regional Development Authority's (ORDA) CEO Ted Blazer said, “ORDA’s goal is to always provide the best venue and conditions possible for any and all events. Given the recent weather challenges, ORDA felt that there just was not enough time to prepare Whiteface Mountain and the Olympic Jumping Complex to accommodate this World Cup. We look forward to hosting the best freestyle athletes in the world in the future.”

Meanwhile Calum Clark, vice-president of events for the United States Ski Association was looking to the future.

"ORDA and the community of Lake Placid have put on a lot of great events for our athletes. Difficult weather situations are a part of our sports and ORDA has done everything in its power to try and prepare the World Cup sites. We appreciate those efforts and commitment to our event partnership and look forward to returning in the future."

Lake Placid is one of the longest-running fixtures on the World Cup circuit, hosting events in nearly every season since 1985. This season will be the first time an event will not be held in Lake Placid since 2007.

Currently, there are no plans to replace the cancelled aerials and moguls events at Lake Placid. The next scheduled stop on the FIS Freestyle moguls World Cup tour will be on January 23, 2016, while the next stop on the aerials World Cup tour is slated for Deer Valley, USA, on February 5, 2016.
